Liberty Madera Ranchos senior Matison McCombs and junior Sophia Napier took the top two spots in the Division 5 girls final at the CIF Central Section Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. McCombs covered the 5-kilometer course in 20:08.29 and Napier clocked 20:22.03 for Liberty Madera Ranchos, which had all five scorers place in the top 40 in a 57-61 victory over Sierra Pacific. Napier was 12th in last year's Division 4 final in 21:06.6 and McCombs placed 15th in 21:19.3 for the Hawks, who were eighth overall, before moving to Division 5 this season.
